Come and check out the Fallas of Valencia!
If you’re thinking of visiting Valencia, you have to come in March. During this month, the city is transformed with Las Fallas, a unique festival that combines art, tradition and an explosion of emotions.
Las Fallas and los Ninots
All over the city there are impressive cardboard and wooden monuments called fallas, some of which are more than 20 metres high. They are satirical works of art that take a humorous look at current events and society. Each falla also has little characters called ninots that are part of the scene.
Las Mascletàs: A gunpowder spectacle
Every day, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento echoes with the mascletà, a spectacle of gunpowder and sound that can be experienced with all five senses. Thousands of people gather to feel the force of gunpowder in their chests for a few unforgettable minutes.
La Ofrenda to the Virgen de los Desamparados
On 17th and 18th March, thousands of falleros and falleras, dressed in traditional costume, take to the streets to offer flowers to the Virgen de los Desamparados, the patron saint of Valencia. The flowers form a huge mantle that covers a wooden structure in the Plaza de la Virgen, creating a spectacular image.
La Nit de la Cremà: the grand finale
On 19th March, the festival reaches its most exciting moment: the Cremà. On this night, all the fallas go up in flames in an impressive farewell of fire and light. The city lights up with bonfires and applause as Valencia says goodbye to the Fallas… until next year.
Las Fallas is not just a party, it’s an experience you have to have at least once in your life. If you’re thinking of moving to Valencia, now is the best time to discover the city’s vibrant soul.
Come and enjoy the magic of Las Fallas!
